Communication, Respect and Trust.  The three elements you need for every relationship in your life. Whether you speak with someone for five minutes or fifty years, you have an impact.  It is important that you treat every person and conduct every conversation with these elements.

Communication – Speak your truth.  While what you say will vary, everything must be the truth.  Honest communication opens up your own world and the world of others.  You are not obligated to share your deepest secrets you can always speak to anyone from a place of truth.  No one is like you – no one shares your history, your emotional life, your brain, your challenges.  Because of this your perspective is not like anyone else’s in the world.  Share it.  Impart just a small amount of your truth to whoever you are with and they will be enriched.  You will be enriched.

RespectHonor everyone.  Everyone deserves respect for who they are, regardless of whether we understand it or agree with it or wish to emulate it.  Respect is just understanding that the person with whom you are interacting has information and insights you can not possibly have no matter how hard you try.  They are unique, you are unique; at the end of any interaction you will be changed.

Trust Trust that others are speaking their truth.  Trust the fact that people’s intent is usually not to confuse or damage you.  You don’t need to understand everyone nor do you have to be like others.  However, you must come to every interaction with the expectation that just as you believe what you say, they believe what they say. Trust the fact that others know themselves and their ideas as much as you do your own.
